CSLib Rules (v1.1, Updated 2020-12-04) Rules (most up to date version found at http://cslib.org.uk/rules.txt) - Use the right channels for the right things - e.g. anything DNS related should go in #dns-dhcp! - Keep it civil - Don't be a dick - Ask for help if you get stuck! Most of us are freshers, but we've got a few people who know what they're doing :) - Don't mess with other people's VMs - Treat others as you'd wish to be treated - No commercial stuff (anything that can be used for commercial gain e.g. Bitcoin mining) - Listen to this sudo output: We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things: #1) Respect the privacy of others. #2) Think before you type. #3) With great power comes great responsibility. Running VMs as Part of a Society If you wish to run something for a society, you are more than welcome to do so, and this is what Oli has said with regards to that: The (un?)official CSLib motto was anything (not against uni regulations / the law) goes, including societies with the proviso that there is no support nor guarantee nor backups and anyone putting stuff on CSLib must be happy with that (and ideally make sure they have a copy of anything on it) To add to that, it is possible for anyone to see anything on anyone's VMs (although they shouldn't) so if you're planning on storing sensitive info this might not be the right place. If you could also update the wiki page at http://wiki.vm.cslib.org.uk/w/index.php/Other_Societies_VMs that would be awesome  Sanctions We have a policy of trust people first, and if and only if they abuse that trust then things can change. All actions are logged under your username, so if you delete someone's VM or are just generally being a dick, it will get found out and there is the potential for consequences (e.g. blacklsit from CSLib services, in trouble with the actual university should Oli deem it necessary) That being said, if you're not being annoying, you don't have anything to worry about!
